If you haven’t read the Overview post for the Starcruiser, go back and do that now. Otherwise, you’ll be lost. Y’all don’t really know me yet, but I love food. I plan my vacations around food, and Disney is no exception. Let me start off by saying the food on the Starcruiser was absolutely amazing! I am gluten intolerant, and our agency’s food allergy expert (I have several clients with various food allergies). My intolerance did not hinder me in any way from enjoying the meals onboard. The food for breakfast and lunch is served like a cafeteria style buffet. Many of the items that are pre-portioned in the dining room is already allergy-friendly, and there are also some items that can be made special. For example, breakfast included waffles one morning. The standard waffles are not gluten free, but the chef made me a gluten free version.
Once you get checked in at the Starcruiser, you’re escorted to your room, and then you’re free to explore the ship. After Jerry and I dropped off our “carryon luggage” in our room, the first stop was the dining room. Let me warn you – the food is themed to be galactic, and some of it looked downright strange. Don’t be afraid!
Try everything! Lunch on days one and two was pre-portioned in grab-for-yourself small plates that fit onto trays, and consisted of tip yip (fried) chicken with mac and cheese, blackened fish with rice, roasted veggies, salad, soup and bubble waffles, and flatbread pizzas. The blue milk and green milk from Batuu are on tap, along with Coke products and water. Also included with the package is a quick service dining credit for each member of your travel party, to be used at Hollywood Studios. My recommendation for day two is to get up early and eat breakfast, mobile order your lunch on Batuu to be picked up as soon as the restaurant opens, then eat lunch in the dining room on the Starcruiser when you get back from Batuu. That will fully maximize your food benefits (I told y’all that I love food).
There are two dinner times, and you pre-select which time you’d like to eat dinner when you book your Starcruiser package. There is also an upcharge dinner experience called the Captains Table. Dinner was different each night and was served family style for you to share with those at your table. (For travelers with food allergies, you’ll receive your own plate, unless the food items are standardly missing your allergy item.) Night one was served in three courses. The appetizer was a salad and three dumplings of various colors with different fillings. If you’ve ever eaten at the Canteen in Pandora, they reminded me of the cheeseburger pods on that menu. The main course included beef, shrimp, chicken, rice, and veggies, so basically everything you could possibly want. And then there was a mousse/pudding “pod” for dessert. There were also late-night snacks available in the atrium. This included cake pops, cookies, fresh and dried fruits, and various galactic candies.
Dinner on night two was four courses. The first was a bread course. The second was a blue shrimp served with an over-the-top dry ice presentation that made it “smoke” at the table. The reviews of the blue shrimp are mixed; people either love it or they hate it. I loved it! The third course had a beef short rib and a whitefish, both served with different sauces and accompanying veggies. Dessert was a chocolate “air cake” with fruit jelly. There was also a late-night dessert party on day two. The choices included cookies, sorbet, cake pops, and fruit.
Breakfast on the Starcruiser is served in two ways – either grab and go boxes in the atrium, or buffet/cafeteria style in the dining room. I did not do the grab and go option because of my gluten intolerance, but Jerry snagged on just to see what was in it. It consisted of a couple pastry options, fresh fruit, and yogurt. The dining room breakfast was set up like lunch, with grab for yourself dishes ready to go. The food items were standard breakfast foods with a galactic flair. There were multiple options including egg and cheese bites, sausage gravy and egg “worms”, yogurt, fruit, waffles, and sweet breads/pastries. There wasn’t a single thing that I tried onboard that I did not like. The food was epic! I would do a Starcruiser package again simply for the food – it was that good!
I haven’t been everywhere yet, but it’s on my list… Happy Travels!
