Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser – Overview

Y’all better get some snacks for this one, because it’s going to be a long topic of discussion. I’m actually going to break it up into four different posts based on topic – an overview, the food, the activities, and the detailed experience. Let me start out by saying that I wouldn’t describe myself as a Star Wars fan by any means. My husband, Jerry, is the fan in our family. I’ve seen four Star Wars movies, because he made me watch them before our trip, so I know just enough to be dangerous. Even now, when we wander around Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, I still have to ask who is a good guy and who is a bad guy. I know that Ewoks are adorable, Chewie is really tall, and Harrison Ford is awesome.

As you may or may not know, Disney opened the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser in 2020. This resort is a brand-new kind of experience – it is an immersive, interactive, escape room/scavenger hunt style resort hotel. The packages include two days and two nights’ accommodations onboard the Galactic Starcruiser, all meals (two breakfasts, two lunches plus one quick service credit on Batuu, two dinners, daily snacks, and a dessert party), non-alcoholic beverages, character interactions, onboard experiences, one day ticket to Hollywood Studios (including lightning Lane access to Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance), and valet parking at the Starcruiser.

Packages do not include transportation to/from the airport or any other Disney destination (currently, Disney is giving each travel party a $50 credit to use for a rideshare if you’re extending your time to visit another Disney resort/park after departing the Starcruiser), alcoholic beverages, photo sessions, activities on Batuu such as lightsaber or droid building, or costumes. Speaking of costumes, they are accepted and welcomed, however adults are not allowed to cover their faces with masks of any kind (sorry for anyone who wanted to impersonate Darth Vader).

The next few blog posts will get into the weeds of the different aspects of the Galactic Starcruiser, but for now I will leave you with my recommendations regarding booking a package.

  • This should go without saying, but book your package with me. I would love to be your travel agent, and help you navigate a galaxy far far away.
  • Plan to add on at least one night at a separate Disney resort. A two day trip is simply too short!
  • Check in at the Starcruiser takes a while, so just be prepared for that so nobody melts down while waiting.
  • If you don’t pack anything else, make sure you have a portable phone charger. You will absolutely need it. (I’ll explain why in a later post.)
  • Plan to be adventurous – in your interactions with characters and other guests, in your dining experience (because the food looks weird, but more on that later), in your dress/costumes.
  • Take part! The more you interact, the more missions you’re given.

I haven’t been everywhere yet, but it’s on my list… Happy Travels!
